Watch where you walk!

Seriously!

10/6/09 a little over a month ago I was just minding my own business and the parking curb came up and tripped me! Yes it did! I landed on my elbow and ended up fracturing my RIGHT shoulder. I'm RIGHT handed! Since I was a child I have done EVERYTHING just about with my right hand. Let me tell you, it is hard to change those things being in your 40's. Needless to say I have been unable to do anything! No writing, no typing, no sewing!

THEN to make matters worse, within a day of fracturing my shoulder we found out that my Mother has Stage 4 Ovarian Cancer. They sent her home from the hospital because the cancer was too far along to do anything. It has spread to her liver and her stomach looked like she was 5 months pregnant.

And finally, my 19 year old daughter and her boyfriend are living with us because they both lost their jobs and couldn't afford to pay rent. The only room that they can stay in is my Quilting/Craft room. Since I can't sew anyway it not a very big deal.

Wow! Life really deals some tough hands sometimes!

Design Wall Monday & Quilt Along Blocks finished!

That's right - I did it! The crazy mom quilt quilt along
which is also my Design wall Monday post.

These blocks were made totally 100% from scraps! AND I still have alot of scraps - doesn't seem like I even made a dent in it.

This quilt is destined to become the couch quilt, as my ds always bring out his blankets to cuddle under when in front of the tv on Saturday and Sunday mornings. So this will look much better.

Now hopefully by next Monday, I will have the sashings on and it will look more like a quilt.

Thanks for stopping by!

Sewing Pattern Storage

I've had them in boxes - didn't work for me. Either the boxes were too big, or not the right size. Not to mention being ugly. Sure you could cover them - but that would take time and effort :)

I've had them in wicker baskets - that didn't work either. Can never find ones that match! Or fit on my shelves!

Solution found!

So, I thought I would share my idea - maybe it would work for someone else too!

You know those cd/dvd plastic storage cubes? Made by Sterilite. Perfect size to fit patterns in! I can fit about 20 patterns in one cube. And if you can find the clear ones, you can see the front of the pattern through them. They had them at my local dollar tree. I think I've seen them at Walmart too!

I now have one for bags/purses, one for baby items, and one for crafts. I will have to get a couple more for aprons, pets, mens clothing, womens clothing... the list goes on.

No sewing going on here!

Nope!

When fixing a stupid cord that was chewed by some pups, somehow the foot control "controller thing" got broken.

Well, my dear husband seems to have broken something that was not broken to begin with :(

Ordered a new foot control with cord attached from Sears that SHOULD fit my machine, but it won't get here until 8/25/09.....sigh.....

So, my hubby said, just go buy another foot controller. My local sew/vac repair place wanted $10 for just the foot piece. And it was OLD! He digged in a box for quite a while to find it too. Justified the price by saying that a new one with cord attached was around $30. It looked like a $2 part! Told him that I just bought one for $20 new from Sears, so $5 was more like it. He just looked at me like "if you want it pay $10". Jerk. I left.

So anyway, I'm rearranging my sewing room again. I got a really long (93") sewing table with a bunch of drawers. Perfect! Found it on CRaigslist whilst looking for a used sewing machine. So everything is piled on top of my craft table while I'm rearranging.

IT'S A MESS RIGHT NOW!

Yes, I did find a sewing machine. Actually found 2 :) Old Singer from the 70's for $10 at a thrift store, and an Elna for CHEAP from Craigslist. But since I have no where to put it right now it is just sitting there. Waiting.

More 9-patch blocks

More 9-patch blocks done! That makes my total 26. A little late posting because one of my dogs chewed my sewing machine cord!

I have a total of 70 that I need to make for Crazy Mom Quilts "One a day quilt along round 2" at http://crazymomquilts.blogspot.com

I guess I'm not so good at doing a one a day thing, but I do have 26 done, and it is day 24. There are 2 that I've made up (and posted pictures about) that I am not too pleased with. The fabric feels pretty flimsy, so I may use those for puppy blankets instead. So you know what that means.....24 blocks in 24 days....right on track! Now if I can just keep the dogs away from my sewing machine!

OK! Who did it?

OK, so I was off yesterday morning to my bi-monthly quilting meeting. We usually bring our sewing machines with us, so I was unplugging my machine and noticed that there was some "damage" to my power cord that goes from my foot petal to my machine. I should have taken a picture of this before it was fixed, but here is the picture after my wonderful husband fixed my sewing machine. This was after the surgery:
And a close up

Bad huh? Good thing is that I always turn off my machine when I'm not in front of it. So the suspects did not get hurt. But I would hate to think what would have happened had I not gone to my quilting meeting and instead sat down at my machine and started sewing. I'm in bare feet .... scary! Not the bare feet...but the thought of myself getting electricuted.

So here are the "suspects"

Chihuahua's! Yes, the brown little one likes to sleep like that alot! Hopefully the black one doesn't get a fit of gas :)

From left to right: Ella, Batman, and Cruiser!

I think this one looks the guiltiest - just plain tuckered out from all that chewing!
